چکیده

be a process separate from absorption (Hendrix & Bayless, 1970), this interpretation is of some interest. None of this invalidates the general conclusions reached by Dr Russell and his associates, including their important observation that clinical remission is not synonymous with functional improvement. It does point to the caution that must be used in comparing the results of perfusion studies which may differ significantly in details of technique-and perhaps for the need for perfusionists to reach some measure of agreement on standard experimental procedures.

The effect of pH on folic acid absorption in man.

1. Pteroylmonoglutamic acid (PteGlu) absorption has been measured by using the technique of small-intestinal perfusion with tritiated PteGlu in normal subjects and in patients with coeliac disease. 2. At similar intrajejunal pH, patients with untreated coeliac disease have significantly less PTEGlu than normal subjects and patients with treated coeliac disease. 3. The "resting" pH in the jejunu...

Ileal function in patients with untreated adult coeliac disease.

A double-lumen perfusion technique has been used to investigate jejunal and ileal absorption of glucose, water, and electrolytes in a group of patients with untreated adult coeliac disease. Correct positioning of the tube was confirmed by measuring the differential jejunal and ileal handling of bicarbonate. Eight control subjects and eight patients with coeliac disease were perfused with an iso...

Amino acid and peptide absorption in patients with coeliac disease.

A double-lumen perfusion technique has been used to study amino acid and peptide absorption in eight normal control subjects, 13 patients with untreated adult coeliac disease, and 16 patients with dermatitis herpetiformis who had varying morphological abnormalities of the small bowel. All subjects were perfused with isotonic solutions containing 10 mM glycyl-L-alanine and 10 mM glycine + 10 mM ...

Availability of monoglutamyl and polyglutamyl folates in normal subjects and in patients with coeliac sprue.

Intestinal folate absorption was assessed in six normal subjects and in four patients with coeliac sprue who were studied before and after treatment by dietary gluten exclusion. Comparisons were made of the luminal disappearance from the perfused jejunum of 3H-pteroylmonoglutamate and pteroyl 14C-glutamylhexaglutamate, and of the 48-hour urinary recovery of each isotope after perfusion and a ti...

Radiation induced myocardial perfusion abnormalities in patients with left breast cancer: A prospective study with short and long term follow up

Introduction:The external beam radiation therapy for patients with left breast cancer at the mastectomy site may cause myocardial perfusion abnormalities. We intended to study the change of these abnormalities at short and long term post radiotherapy follow up. Methods: Twenty patients with left and 20 patients with right breast cancer comprised the exposed an...
